Golden Visa Program
All applicants are required to have 5 years of temporary residency before they reach eligibility to apply for Portuguese citizenship.
The clock that counts temporary residency starts with submission of the Golden Visa application.
Initial residency cards will be issued after the applicants are invited to travel to Portugal for a biometrics appointment. This typically takes 12-18 months.
Residency cards are renewed in 2 year intervals.
7-8 years
After 5 years of legal residency, candidates are able to apply for Permanent Residency. It takes up to a year for this.
After 5 years of legal residency, candidates are able to apply for Portuguese citizenship. Application review takes 2-3 years.
